Happy Halloween from OFG

Have a great and safe Halloween, and remember to stop and think "What would Liam do" in times of indecision ;) Cheers!

Oasis Lingo

Like most bands, Oasis fans have developed sort of their own language. While taking a lot of it from Oasis themselves, some of it comes purely from the fans:

Mad fer it
(MAD fuuurr it)

Other ways to use it; Mad ferrets, mad fer, Mad for it, Mad heads.

Created by the man himself; Liam Gallagher. Its common among Oasis fans to say “Mad fer it” I’m Mad fer it” as a way of identifying themselves to other Oasis fans . If you say it to a group of Oasis fans, they will know what you mean. It is also used as “mad fer” as in “I’m mad fer that new song” or “Mad fer Liam”.

“D’you know what I mean?”
(DO yea know what I mean ?)

Other ways to used it; DYKWIM?, you know what I mean, YKWIM.

Taken from Be Here Now’s opening track of the same name. Oasis fans use it like anyone else would, expect it’s used more often and sort of pun like when used. Its more than a question and more like a confirming statement “I really love the new tracks , d’ you know what I mean?” In forums will more than not be used as a anagram DYKWIM? .

“Our Kid”
(ARE kid)

Other ways to use it: R Kid.

Refers to Liam Gallagher, often called that by Noel. It is often used in Manchester and other northern English cities to refer to one's siblings or cousins. “Our Liam” or “Our Noel” is often used by the Gallagher brothers. Though used a lot in Manchester for EVERYONE, it as become common place for Oasis fans (mainly non-northern British ones) to used it like its solely meant for Liam. Often used as “Our kid and them” or “Our kid’s voice was on tonight”. OFG does not used it because it often sounds corny.

“The Chief”

Refers to Noel Gallagher. Developed somewhere inside of Oasis.

“Who the Fuck is Andy Bell?

Started in Oasis at a 2000 Wembley Stadium gig by Noel and push into infinity by Oasis' live album "Familiar to Millions". The story goes that a security guard at Wembley refused Andy Bell admittance to the back stage area, because Andy had lost his pass and the guard didn't know who the fuck Andy Bell was. This phrase is mainly used at gigs, usually some drunken hooligan screams it .

ANAGRAMS:

“TMP” or “MP” refers to Oasis’ b-side album; “The Masterplan” or the Masterplan forum.

Some Might Say: Oasis forums

If your new to Oasis, new to the internet, or just a lurker, that would like to get more involved in the Oasis community, OFG is here to help.

Live 4 ever:

Top Mod: Webm@ster
Top (Interesting) Posters:Caro, TheImportance, Meanstreak, JONO
American run Live4ever.us runs a spectacular site, up to date news, great boot artwork and much more. In addition Live4ever’s forum is one of the largest and tightest in the Oasis community. The forum has been around for 5 years along with the site and a few of the original forum members still remain. The forum offers up to five categories solely for Oasis, plus non Oasis categories. Like most Oasis sites during Oasis’ slow periods it’s a bit slow in posting, BUT not as slow as Oasis Fanatic or The Masterplan. During album releases and tours L4E is the place to be, featuring tons of posters from all around the world (forgive the pun). It is American friendly (some forums are not) if you know your stuff that is and basically there is no drama, being that its incredibly will moderated. But like most Oasis sites you ask a silly question you may get a silly answer, though more that not on L4E your reply will be funny rather than cruel. L4E is a good place for Oasis vets to hang out, while still being a safe place for a Oasis rookies to ask questions.
Great place to check out:
Sound and Vision: Amazing file sharing!
Place to Start:
Simply the Best Rock n Roll Band.

Oasis Fanatic:
Top Mod: DaVincetCode
Top Posters : Dollie Rocker, Mija, Flashpoint914, Oasisno1

Oasis Fanatic has been around for I believe four years and from what OFG can gather it is a British born site. OFG highly recommends this site for Oasis rookies, the people are kind and tight and now a days its mostly a 18-24 crowd, with medium knowledge of Oasis. Though some Oasis vets do like to hang out there (Including OFG). It can get VERY slow in the Oasis section, during Oasis’ slow periods, basically only one topic being posted on every day, plus they are a bit slow for news, when news breaks the OF forum is usually the last to know. Still the people are very nice and will usually answer your silliest questions. Very friendly to every kind.
Great place to check out: Sing Me Something New
Place to Start: Hello

The Masterplan Forum:
Top Mod: Contom
Top Posters : Contom, Sanchez, Hawkzino

Extremely cliquey Oasis forum, filled with tons of 18-20 year old hooligans, not a bad thing, if you like that sort of forum. In saying that OFG though not a frequent visitor to the forum knows the top mod very well and though a bit hoolgianish the Oasis fans on MP are hardcore. Do not ask beginner questions! You have the potential of be totally ostracized! Your best bet on MP is to sign up and reply to already posted non –Oasis knowledge related questions like “What is your fave record?” and not “What was the production value of Definitely Maybe? ” even if you do know it, its best to feel the waters on the The Masterplan rather than jumping right in. They are all pretty nice once you get to know them. Recommend for Oasis with medium to high knowledge of the band.
Great place to check out: The forum options! MP Lets to you chose you forum “theme” aka any one of the albums. Also great download section.
Place to Start: Introduce your Self

The Soapbox:
A bare bones, hardcore, veteran oasis forum. It was started basically 6 years ago when the ORGANIAL Masterplan Forum shut down and the forum members and frequent users of the “Soapbox” section of the Masterplan forum didn’t have anywhere else to go. The Soapbox is sort of elusive, it is not connected to any Oasis site and really doesn’t “specialize” in Oasis. While there is a section for Oasis it is not exclusively Oasis. This the TOP forum for news, a few of the posters are actually close with the band. This is not a place for Oasis rookies, med levels and even some veterans, if you post something that is incorrect about Oasis…..THEY WILL EAT YOU ALIVE! Because this forum is very established and older than most, if your new, its just best to sign up and lurk. Yup you heard me lurk away, you will get all the Oasis info your heart desires with out stressing yourself out in a forum of highly intimidating posters.

OasisInet Forum:
STAY AWAY!!! Yes it’s the most obvious place to start, but it’s the most un moderated, most hooligan like forum in there is ! Its full of fan girls and boys (which is not a bad thing, they are just the most annoying kind!) Tons of drama, and in fighting, racism, and blabbing about who’s the hottest member of Oasis (it’s a tied of course). Plus it crashes ALL the time, and a lot of the time won’t like OFG in! Bastards I know. Inet is not a good example of Oasis fans, and not great opening for new fans of Oasis

Lord Don't Slow Me Down

I m tried and I'm sick

I feel hung over
and I am all in love
when the lights go down I am gonna shoot em up

Its all right
Don't be afriad
You gotta keep dreaming the in the bed you made

Keep praying that the Lord won't slow me down

Don't Believe the Hype

Oasis Fan Rule #1

When it comes to Oasis, there has always been tons of hype, stories, articles and photos. Over the years I have learned not to believe certain things from certain sources. Anyone living outside the UK might not know about the UK's tabloid problem. The UK tabloids are probably the worst in the world, notorious for hiding in bushes, harassing superstars and printing out outrageous stories.

Here's a list of soucres to be weary of:

The Sun: Nearly every two weeks the Sun's writers come up something to write about Liam and Noel. My two favorite articles being the "Oasis to Open an Oasis themed Hotel" and "Liam has six toes" articles. . If you would like a skewed view of the Gallagher's lives the Sun is for you.

The Mirror: Another UK rag that utterly despises Oasis. It could be the fact that Liam has repeatedly attacked Mirror photographers. Don't believe anything you read in the Mirror.

Contact Music: While most of the time Contact is a reliable source, but in the past Contact has posted articles on their site that are basically rewritten Sun stories.

Foreign Oasis Sites: Did you wonder a bit when a Brazilian Oasis site posted a "new demo" from Oasis this month? It of course was a fake. Most "exclusive" news from forgien or non -english speaking site is incorrect. The best Oasis sites should be build in the UK, they closer to the action!

In ending if you believe everything you read or see about Oasis, you are incredibly gullible and probably not an Oasis fan anymore. The B.S. about Oasis that cirulates is amazing. So don't believe the hype its usually shite!

Oasis and fans, lines not to cross

If your like me, knowing Oasis fans you probably are, you would do practically anything to meet Liam and Noel, even Gem and Andy. Though there is one thing I would not do, that is going to there homes and bothering them and their families. I always found it extremely creepy when fans ask on forums and message board about Liam and Noel’s addresses. It is truly none of your business! My point being Oasis on average make over 200 appearances (gigs, interviews) over the period when they are touring, lets say over 2 years. Why is it necessary to bother them at home? While Oasis as been very good about meeting fans outside there homes, I still think its something that should be warned against. Besides invading their space and privacy, I think it gives off a stalkerish quality to the fan. Would you rather be the cool fan that shows up at gigs to show your support, or would you rather be the weird fan that follows them around and gets rolled eyes from the band? Personally I would rather be the first.

Here are a few rules:

1. Do NOT take photos of any member of Oasis’ kids: that is just wrong and inappropriate. The fathers are the famous one not the little ones.

2. Do NOT approach them when with there kids: Waving and smiling is you best bet, then gage there reaction to figure out if you should just walk on or approach them further.

3. Do not shout at them across a street, shop, whatever: Firstly its rude, secondly it will attract attention to them, which is pretty horrible for them, if they have just gone up for a pint of milk in their pajamas. Also if the situation seems proper to ask for a photo or autograph, you may attract other fans, and it will lessen your chances of having a chat with them.

4. Do NOT bother them while eating, at the movies, or shopping: Don’t bug them when their doing personal things. Noel once said he was bothered once while watching a film in theater. Not a good idea. If there not with their children, wait outside until they leave. THEN approach them.

5. ALWAYS be polite: Yes Oasis have a reputation of being wild men, but that doesn’t mean you have to be wild or rude when you approach them. Always start with “I’m sorry to bother you” A “Mr. Gallagher” never hurts as well.

6. Don’t act like a crazy person: You can cry, shout and scream after the meeting, but not during it. Don’t tell Liam you love him, or Noel that you’re going to marry him or you would like to join Oasis if they ever need another drummer. It makes you completely look like a fan girl or boy, which is fine if your 13 to 17 years old. Personally I think if you say what’s in your heart (minus a proposal of marriage) you won’t walk away will any regrets.

7. Know when to Walk Away: There is nothing more cringe worthy than a fan that who doesn’t know when its time to go. Don’t follow Noel around after he has taken a photo, given a autograph and a conversation with you! Is very disrespectful. Plus it discourages them from doing it again for other fans, no one likes to be harassed after doing a good thing.

8. Check their Moods: Sometimes they don’t want to be bothered. This is especially true for Noel, he is a self proclaimed “moody basterd” so if they look pissed, angry, or sick, don’t do it, unless your sure you will never have the chance again. There is 50/50 chance your experience will be negative .

9. If they say NO, they mean NO: Don’t bug them, give them a break, they are only human, they have bad days too, don’t hold that against them.

10. Be aware of your appearance: Tall men approach more cautiously than short ones. Screaming girls while cute at first, are doubtful to be approached.

11. One last rule: Liam is NOT looking for a fight. Please don’t try to bait or agonize him.

Follow these rules you and Oasis will have a pleasant experience. Oasis are VERY nice.
